As part of a project in my first semester, I was tasked with exploring the concept of light and shadow through a photography series titled Let There Be Light. The objective of this project was to experiment with various light sources and materials to capture dynamic and compelling visual narratives. I utilised a diverse range of lighting techniques, including natural light, artificial light and controlled light sources, to create intricate shadows and highlight textures in unexpected ways.
I also explored the interplay between light and the objects it interacts with, experimenting with different materials—such as translucent fabrics, reflective surfaces, and textured elements—to manipulate the way light was diffused and cast across my subjects. This approach allowed me to create a series of photographs that emphasised both the form of the objects and the atmospheric qualities of the light itself.
In addition to experimenting with light, I focused on varying perspectives and angles to add depth and dimension to my compositions. By shifting viewpoints and framing the images from unconventional angles, I was able to achieve a range of outcomes, from abstract patterns to more recognisable forms, all while maintaining a sense of visual intrigue. This exploration of light and perspective resulted in a series of photographs that not only showcased technical skill but also conveyed the emotive and transformative power of light in photography.
